![]() ![]() I have been using Writer Duet for the last 5-6 years and hardly ever boot FD up. It's an absolutely fine and professional program. Always got comped a free copy and knew it backwards and forwards for our customers. ![]() I used to SELL FD at a bookshop for years. This probably didn't need a whole Reddit post, but I just wanted to know what the community thought. I'll probably keep FD on standby while I continue using WriterDuet as my main. I've talked with a bunch of people working in the industry and they've all more or less said Final Draft is the necessity, so I decided to dive in. Just wanted to ask this before I fully commit to a refund.ĮDIT: I really appreciate all the responses. I'm not trying to say Final Draft is a terrible piece of software (it's industry standard for a reason), but for someone who's already more-than-familiar with a screenwriting program that has all the features one should need, is it really worth trying to force myself to use Final Draft because of its reputation? Will I need Final Draft to make progress in my career? Not to mention, if needed, WriterDuet can also export documents in the Final Draft file format. It's just a bunch of elements that make me go through WithdrawalDuet and feel like I wasted $90.įurthermore, from what I can gather, most, if not all, features present in Final Draft (multiple script styles, production tagging, etc.) are also present in WriterDuet. I hate how the UI feels simultaneously cluttered and barren, I hate how the script elements are relegated to a drop-down menu, and I hate how the mouse cursor doesn't highlight the line it hovers over (a minuscule feature but one I find consistently helpful). So I finally decided to bite the bullet and bought it with the student discount.įour days of tinkering and experimenting later, and I'm not enjoying myself. Hell, once the UI updated, it got even better.īut of course, I always hear that Final Draft is the industry standard: the software most working professionals in Hollywood use. I've been using WriterDuet as my choice screenwriting software for five years, and I have no complaints or problems with it whatsoever.
