“Redbreast 10-Year-Old offers a unique, rich flavour profile with notes of tropical and dried fruit, which gives way to a balance of richness from the inclusion of Sherry casks. To honour this historic whiskey, the new expression comprises three distillates aged for between 10 and 15 years in both American oak ex-Bourbon barrels and oloroso Sherry-seasoned butts from Spain.īilly Leighton, Irish Distillers master blender, said: “This release rejoices the longstanding history of Redbreast Irish whiskey and celebrates the distinctive qualities which Redbreast is known for globally. To produce its whiskey, W A Gilbey used Sherry casks in its vaults to mature distillate from the Jameson Distillery. The new Redbreast 10-Year-Old is said to pay homage to the original Gilbey’s 10-Year-Old whiskey produced by wine and spirits merchant W A Gilbey, which operated in Dublin at the turn of the 20th century. Irish Distillers has bottled a limited edition 10-year-old Redbreast whiskey The Costco stores that carry spirits should have all three expressions in time for Christmas sales in the fourth quarter. To celebrate 30 years since the resurrection of the Redbreast brand, Irish Distillers has bottled a limited edition 10-year-old Irish whiskey. The small batch is scheduled to begin rolling out in June, and the other expressions will follow over the course of the summer and early fall. If that is the case, they will represent outstanding values! The scuttlebutt is between $20 to $25 per 1 liter bottle. Pricing will vary by state but in the Costco tradition all three bourbons will be very competitively priced. Not all three expressions are yet available. Certainly, if you are a fan of Barton, or high rye mash bills in general, you will find much to like in the Kirkland Signature bottlings. The finish is medium length, with some dried fruit notes and lingering notes of oak wood, vanilla and caramel.Īll three expressions, in my opinion, show a consistent Barton 1792 DNA, although they do appear to exhibit subtle differences from Barton’s regular bottlings. There is a noticeable pepperiness that accompanies the cinnamon and clove notes. On the palate, there are pronounced notes of caramel and vanilla, along with some dried tropical fruit and a hint of stone fruit. The oak wood note becomes more noticeable as the whiskey opens up. On the nose, there are notes of caramel, vanilla and a persistent dried and candied fruit note, along with some cinnamon and clove spice. The designation bottled-in-bond (BIB) means that the whiskey is the product of one distilling season, either January to June or July to December, a single distillery, has been aged for at least four years and is bottled at 50% ABV (100 proof). The fruit has more of a tropical character, with notes of melon and a bit of banana and is accompanied by a noticeable pepperiness, along with cinnamon and clove notes. The dried fruit, honey, caramel and vanilla flavors on the nose carry over to the palate. The overproof strength is underscored by a fair amount of alcohol burn on the palate. On the palate, the bourbon has a slightly oily texture, with a medium viscosity and a mouth coating texture. On the nose, there are notes of dried fruit, along with sweet honey, caramel and vanilla. These tasting notes are based on a single representative sample and, while indicative of the expression, may vary from the bottling found in any one store. The TTB, (Alcohol and Tobacco Tax and Trade Bureau) does not have a legal definition of “single barrel”, hence there is no way of knowing whether a single barrel bottling is a mix of individual single barrels or a succession of bottlings from different single barrels. While they will share a common DNA, you may see some differences between different bottlings, especially between stores in different parts of the country. Since a single barrel’s worth of bourbon wouldn’t go far across the 337 Costco stores that sell spirits, presumably this is a collection of individual single barrels. This expression is a single barrel selection.
